Cleaning Your Camelback

Cleaning Your Camelback

Q: I just love the Camelback technology for hydration on hikes or bike rides but I am having trouble with cleaning the Camelback. No matter what I do after a few weeks of use it seems to build up a funky film that I am afraid will eventually be a health risk. There are cleaning tools that you can buy but none that really clean both the reservoir and the hose. Does anyone have any ideas?

A: According to our friends at Camp Mowglis, the answer is Extra Strength Efferdent. Made for cleaning dentures but perfect for cleaning Camelbacks. Fill the Camelback with warm water and insert two tablets. The Efferdent should clean your resevoir and hose. If it doesn't work the first time, do it again and try changing the position of the Camelback to allow the fizzing to get to the spots still unclean.
